GI's new Digital Satellite Receiver ushers in an entirely new era in C-Band satellite television. Equiped with General Instrument's MPEG-2 digital compression technology, 4DTV opens up a "superset" of programming choices for the consumer, in video, audio, interactive multimedia, and data.
4DTV FEATURES
More than 700 Channels and growing-as a result of its virtually unlimited bandwidth. Free digital, free analog, scrambled MPEG-2 digital programming, scrambled analog programming, and radio channels.
The 4DTV Has A Sharp, clear digital (digicipher 2 tech: This is what the CABLE GUYS use) picture quality combined with Dolby Digital sound (Dolby Digital is the standard for future HDTV broadcasts in the US.)
Four data ports:
-High speed data port for PC and modem access-for interactive video games and internet access at "warp" speed. (Satellite modems - coming soon - will allow 4DTV to download data and engage in the future of interactive services, at a rate 1,000 times faster than a 28.8 computer modem in your current PC.)
-A second high speed data port for High Definition TV (HDTV) capabilities and other future applications. - Low speed data port for PC computer applications.
- 2-way modem capabilities for Instant Pay-Per-View and other future interactive applications.
Field programmable to allow the receiver to keep track of channels moving to a different transponder or satellite! Consumers won't have to worry about reprogramming. 4DTV down loads every night!
Interactive Program Guide which will put an entire week's programming right on the TV screen and even makes radio stations easy to locate and tune. No more searching for audio sub-carriers.
Digital DigiCipher II with full MPEG-2 decompression capability built in, enables more programming per satellite transponder. This allows more bandwidth for niche services that won't be available on DBS, but is already built into the 4DTV. VideoCipher II Plus access to laserdisc-quality video for movies, premium channels, and dozens of sports channels is available at costs that are much lower than cable and other DBS services.
Clear NTSC analog reception offers all of the free programming including raw network feeds, sports feeds, home shopping, international programming, and more with the 4DTV.
Compatability with existing C-band and Ku-band outdoor electronics makes upgrade to digital capabilities simple, $199 with purchase of the 4DTV.
Standard VCRS interface permits reuse of the VCRS module to access all VideoCipher II Plus encrypted signals by inserting the module into the back of the 4DTV receiver.
Onscreen Interactive Programming Guide provides fast, convenient program directory and selection with one-touch tuning and easy color-coded grids, a 4DTV first.
Colorful, grafical user interface provides easy access to a variety of user features.
Pay-Per-View movies, sports, and other special events are as easy as a touch of the remote control.
Software downloads directly to the receiver (to the 4DTV every night) allow a multitude of interactive services right on the TV.
Flash Memory makes updating new information on channels, software features, and satellites as simple as downloading via the receiver. Intermittent service requests for updates is eliminated.
Dolby Digital audio provides outstanding stereo and surround sound for home theatres.
High speed data ports allow interface to computers and other peripheral products including High Definition Television signals when they become available.
Universal UHF 4DTV remote control operates the receiver from anywhere in the house.

Interactive Program Guide - Quickly see what programming is available for the next seven days. Guide can be viewed as full screen with 6 channel entries or a Mini Guide with 2 channel entries. Color-coded grid and icons help identify program types.
Themes Guide Search - Sort the guide by one of many favorite themes such as sports or movies.
Themes Channel Surfing - Channel surf by one of many favorite themes such as sports or movies.
Program Information Banners - Program title and selected information automatically displays when changing channels on the 4DTV.
Favorite Channel Setting - Develop two favorite channel lists for instant access. Add virtually an unlimited number of channels to these lists.
Quick Information - Display detailed information about any program with one touch. Information includes: movie descriptions, ratings, actors, interactive services support and much more on the 4DTV display.
